January 2, 1993: “I’m Every Woman” was released as the second single from 'The Bodyguard: Original Soundtrack Album.' Written by Ashford & Simpson and originally recorded by Chaka Khan, Whitney’s version was produced by Narada Michael Walden with additional remix production by Clivillés and Cole (who also performed at Whitney’s wedding!) The single was a huge hit worldwide, in the U.S. peaking at
#4 on the Billboard Hot 100,
#1 on the Dance Club Songs Chart and
#5 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. It also made the Adult Contemporary Charts. Entertainment Weekly called Whitney's version "triumphant" — and it won an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Music Video and a GRAMMY nomination for Best R&B Vocal Performance, Female. Directed by Randee St. Nicholas, the music video included appearances by Chaka Khan, Cissy Houston, TLC, Valerie Simpson and a pregnant Whitney 🤗
