Replying to @Kimberly Pups On a serious note, even though Jacobās dramatics are honestly pretty comical, this is a part of rescue that can fester into frustration if you let it: No matter how well you care for an animal, no matter if you saved them out of a nightmare, no matter if youāve spent years trying to help them overcome traumaā¦ they may still never trust you. In fact, they might place the blame on YOU for their past trauma. They might not even have a great memory of all the past trauma thatās happened, but they can still clearly recall how stressful the move was from their past life to their current life, and YOU are a big part of that memory. Maybe you needed to crate them to get them to the vet for surgery and other medical care (Jacob) - they remember YOU being a big part of that scary moment. Youāre one of the last things they vividly recall before they finally got to settle down in a safe place. Sadly, thereās a solid chance that a rescued animal might do the opposite of associate YOU with their new safety - they might actually be afraid that you could potentially take them away from their current peace. If you can be okay with that reality without becoming way too disheartened - and also still love the animal regardless - then you probably have a strong enough heart to be involved in rescue. šŗā¤ļø
