Last week, a Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey accidentally dropped nearly 1,000 pounds of pre-packaged Meals, Ready to Eat (MREs) straight into the ocean west of Okinawa. The cargo, intended for Ie Shima Auxiliary Airfield, veered off course due to unexpected wind shifts and made an unplanned splashdown. Marines conducted a search for the pallet, described as a 4.5-foot cube, but called it off after coming up empty-handed. “This incident is very regrettable because it caused anxiety and affected the local community,” Defense Minister Gen Nakatani said at a news conference Tuesday. “We strongly urged the U.S. side for thorough prevention of recurrences and to take all possible measures for safety management.” While no injuries or damage were reported, the local fish population might beg to differ. After snacking on “Chili Mac” and “Veggie Omelets,” the ocean’s ecosystem is now dealing with a new problem: severely constipated fish. DM/TAG us @AsianMilitaryEntertainment
