Wait for the end to see Tink’s reaction! … 🥚🥹 While Mr. Brian and I would love to let Tinkerbell and Beaker have more babies, our current work situations will not feasibly allow us to take over caring for the babies if Tink decided to not properly care for them again. Because of this, we want to provide her with some fake eggs to satisfy the maternal drive she will inevitably have with Beaker around. This will also save her from the nutritional and health consequences that come with egg laying (calcium depletion, egg binding, mineral deficiencies, etc.), which in some cases can even be fatal. After a few weeks we will gradually take the eggs away as she realizes that they are not viable, and things should quickly go back to normal. If anyone is concerned about Tinkerbell being upset with this, I will say that birds do not tend to dwell on these types of “losses” (such as eggs not hatching), so if she does feel any disappointment it will only be temporary, and is a trade im willing to make to ensure her health. Perhaps our situation will have changed enough by next year, but until then I’d rather our little flock be safe and intact.
