A post by @dr.olamidealabi on TikTok caption: Family isn’t just support. It’s medicine. Let me tell you why. I work with mental health every day. I see something most people miss: The power of family systems in healing. Picture this: A young man fights depression. Doctors give him pills. Therapists give him tools. Nothing changes. Why? Because no one looked at his family tree. The roots of his pain. The branches of support. In many African homes: Pain is shared Healing is shared Joy is shared But we forget this in modern treatment. What I’ve learned - Mental health runs in family lines - Trauma passes down like recipes - Healing spreads like warmth When we brought in this young man’s family: - Old stories came out - Hidden wounds showed - True healing began The change was clear: Dad learned to listen Mom found her voice Sisters became support Brothers showed care Now I know: Treating one person alone is like Fixing one leaf on a dying tree Want real change? Water the roots Heal the soil Strengthen the trunk That’s family systems therapy. It’s not just treatment. It’s coming home to heal. Want to learn more about healing as a family? Let’s talk. A post by @dr.olamidealabi on TikTok caption: 23 years ago, I got my first ticket to an American football game. I was so excited, thinking it would be like soccer. Five minutes in, I'm looking like, 'Wait, why are they throwing the ball? I thought this was football' Then the players huddled up, and I'm thinking, 'Are they about to say a group prayer?' To this day, I still sit for hours watching the game, having no idea what's going on. But I cheer when everyone else does? All I see are grown men hugging and tackling like they are fighting for the last seat on a Lagos bus. HOTTY TODDY Tailgating? Thats a story for another day HOTTY TODDY! (Its a rallying cry that represents enthusiasm for the alumni, students and fans of the University of Mississippi
