Harlem Rent Parties | lets party so i can make rent - During the Harlem Renaissance we got the emergence of ‘rent parties’. This was a space cultivated by the community for the community. They were obviously based around the concept of throwing a party in order to well, make rent. 25 cents to get in the door, 25 cents for what was typically referred to as ‘bathtub gin’ and 25 cents for the food of the night. The drinks were trash, and the spaces were usually limited, but the food, fun, and community was what made the event the place to be.
