It’s super cold here 🥶 So I decided to spend some time inside playing around with videos in prototype within @figma Here I show how simple it is to add some interactions to your videos including play/pause and jump/reverse seconds. The later was new to me but it’s so much fun to see come alive! I also added in some examples of ways to add keyboard triggers for your interactions. In my opinion, this is such an underrated way to up level your work! If you’re like me, prototyping is kinda confusing and scary. I’ve found the best way to learn is to take one feature or trigger at a time, read documentation or watch a quick video and then try and create a simple design with it on your own! Here I grabbed some stock footage and free icons to have something to learn with. Lets discuss the wonderful yet sometimes intimidating Auto Layout. 🤸🏻‍♀️ i used to feel apprehensive about workng with it because i hadnt taken the time to grasp its basics. Here ill walk you through a few steps to help you incorporate it into your designs and why it is crucial to consider how you structure and group elements for flexibility and growth. Its important to note that you dont always need to use auto layout. I find it more useful in the refinement phase and less so in quick, rough explorations. Nevertheless, for those more advanced, auto layout can significantly speed up exploratory work. But remember, dont pressure yourself! Here are 3 of my favorite config updates, besides the absolute killer feature drop of Slides 🛝 1. Suggestive auto layout to help you create responsible auto layout frames for your designs in one click- previously this took a lot of explaining and wackamole to figure out how to best auto layout frames together, but now it is much simpler to use and make things like cards responsive for different viewports 2. FigJam Pages!! Woohoo simple but something I’m going to integrate immediately. I use FigJam for things like monthly meetings, or moodboarding. Now I can have pages for organized canvases that allow me to group them in the same file. 3.
