London-based Scottish photographer Dougie Wallace is internationally recognised for his long-term social documentary projects and a distinct direct style of expressive street photography. His work is informed by societies’ trends and incongruities. He translates what he sees through the lens into wit, criticism and humorous vignettes to convey a distinct point of view. Wing Shya made his name shooting on Wong Kar Wai’s sets as the legendary Chinese filmmaker’s exclusive photographer. Shya is a master of creating still photographs with characters who feel plucked from feature-length films. For years Wing caught the essential cool & moody aesthetic of Wong’s sublime scenes in his most moving work. He specialized in tender, telling footage of the late golden era of Hong Kong.

From the “Obscura Series”, Mederos creates something new, a photorealistic abstraction. The bubble wrap reflects light and distorts the underlying image, it is only at a distance that the works come into focus, when viewed up close the faces dissolve into bold strokes of flesh tones and painted light. The artist challenges the viewer with the series in asking us to understand the core of human identity, from a respectful distance.

Before Stanley Kubrick directed arguably some of the best movies ever made, he was a simple teenager in New York looking for a job. But even then, when the 17-year-old got his hands on a photo camera, he couldn't hide the talent within. During that time Stanley got many insights into what makes a photograph work: "I think aesthetically recording spontaneous action, rather than carefully posing a picture, is the most valid and expressive use of photography."
