A post by @reading_tips_for_parents on TikTok caption: Support struggling spellers using a magnetic whiteboard and letter tiles. Steps to follow: 1) Say the word 2) Pinch the sounds you hear in the word 3) Find the letters needed 4) Make the word 5) To consolidate learning, point to the sounds whilst saying the sound and then blend to read the word as you swipe your finger across the word. By doing this, students are able to think about the letters needed and not letter formation - both can be overwhelming! #spelling #learnenglish #english #writing

A post by @reading_tips_for_parents on TikTok caption: Once children know the sounds, a next step for them is building their reading fluency. You can follow these steps: 1. Read words aloud with the sounds they know using sound buttons 2. Read words in their head using the sound buttons 3. Speed reading These steps will support them to transition from reading each sound and blending, to reading by sight. #phonics #fluency #reading #english

A post by @reading_tips_for_parents on TikTok caption: Practise these words by sight to boost reading fluency. So, go, no have the tricky letter ‘o’ for children. It makes the long o sound (not the short sound). It has been coloured red to support the students. These words are commonly occurring in children’s stories so getting your child to read these by sight will support their reading fluency. Lots of quick recall (like shown in this video) is very supportive to building this fluency.

Time (i-e) Light (igh) Sky(y) Pie (ie) When children are developing their reading, it can help to identify these complex sounds first in words. This will then support them to say the sounds in order to blend and read the word. #phonics #reading #complexsounds #fluency

Read CVC words with the sounds the children know 4. Continue this process- teach more sounds and then get children to read the new sounds in words Ensure children are reading ‘appropriate’ books daily - these are books that only contain the sounds that the child knows to build their confidence and fluency. #reading #english #phonics

A post by @reading_tips_for_parents on TikTok caption: Here are the most common complex sounds! For a child to be a fluent reader and accurate speller, learning these speedily will really support them to make great progress. Teach one way to say all sounds first. When your child is confident at this, teach variations of the sound (same sound but different letter combinations). Always move at the pace of your child! #complexsounds #phonics #spelling #English #teachenglish #learnenglish
