The Dogist

There are currently a large number of dogs and cats lost and displaced in LA due to the wildfires. I joined @Best Friends, @angelcitypits, and @WingsofRescue to help transport dozens of dogs and cats to their sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. This will help free up much needed space for the incoming animals. I set up a fundraiser with @GoFundMe to help raise funds to be distributed to organizations affected by the LA fires, as well as for supplies needed by organizations while I'm here in L.A. After dropping off the remaining dog and cat food at @Wags & Walks Rescue, I was able to see an intake of dogs from other LA city shelters. The volunteers worked diligently and efficiently to receive these dogs, all while showing them the utmost care and attention. Wags and Walks is a rescue organization that is taking in as many dogs as they can from other shelters so that space can be made available for the lost and displaced dogs of the LA area wildfires. They are in desperate need of fosters and adopters, so if you‘ve been thinking of adopting a dog, or have the ability to foster one, please reach out to them — all pet adoption fees are being waived at all LA & city county shelters for the month of January! Today at Sevilla Vet, I spoke with the veterinarian there, who has opened his practice to volunteers in wake of other businesses that have burned down. He explained that their priority is making sure all are cared for, helping not only those affected by the fire, but ensuring they continue to help existing patients. One woman lost her home, but luckily was able to evacuate with her dog Bubba who needed medical attention. A gentleman also came in with two Huskies – he stepped up to foster them since their owners had to evacuate and couldn’t take them. These gracious citizens of L.A. are demonstrating the importance of coming together for your community during difficult times. I stopped by @thelabellefoundation to drop off supplies for the firefighters, dogs, and cats, and to help assemble bags filled with their highest needs right now – energy drinks, snack bars, underwear, mouthwash… these firefighters need all the help they can get to continue their exhaustive efforts. Fostering animals is still a great need so that shelters can make space for incoming dogs displaced by the fires in LA – please consider opening your home if you can! Yesterday we spent time helping those affected by the Altadena fires. We did a transport out of Burbank with @Best Friends, and I’m happy to report that those dogs and cats have safely arrived at their new home in Utah! Today, I headed west to try to help those displaced by the Palisades fire. @Pasadena Humane and @San Gabriel Valley Humane are working hard to distribute supplies to those who have lost everything, as well as caring for the animals in their possession, including strays, injured animals, or those who needed temporary shelter while their humans evacuated.
