Wrapped up my first marketing activation: Lunar New Year 2024’s Year of the Dragon socks, and enjoyed every detail of it. The PR packaging turned out sooooo cute, and I’ve loved seeing it come to life throughout all the different social channels from our media frands tagging @NissanUSA and using #NissanDiversity #NissanLNY24 I’ve also learned some really interesting things about Lunar New Year and China’s rich history and culture! So here you go…you welcome. Fun facts about the #YearOfTheDragon and #LunarNewYear 2024: When is LNY 2024? Timed to the new moon, the Lunar New Year begins on Saturday, Feb. 10 and lasts 15 days, (although it can occasionally last up to 17 days total). The dragon is considered a central figure in Chinese culture, representing vigor, strength and good fortune, among other powerful attributes. According to popular belief, babies born in dragon years possess remarkable qualities throughout their lives, including cleverness, charm, eloquence, and even wealth. People born in the year of the dragon are seen as charismatic, intelligent, confident, powerful, naturally lucky and gifted. But did you know that ancient superstition is that those whose zodiac sign is dragon should live cautiously when the year of the dragon comes? That’s because every 12 years is the year when your own zodiac sign matches up with that of the current year. On February 10, we enter the Year of the Dragon. Unfortunately, that means more disruptions and changes could happen to those who were born in Dragon years. Not everything is negative, though —- switching jobs, getting married, giving birth, or attending more happy events can lure more positive energy. It goes along with the old Chinese proverb: “One fortunate event would cancel out three disasters.” What do you wear for LNY? You’re not wrong if you wear a NEW set of clothes that are red or gold in color. The key word here is NEW. In Chinese culture, buying and wearing new clothes to welcome the lunar new year symbolises a fresh start. New clothes are represent a clean slate and help usher in plenty of good fortune in the coming year. I made my first charcuterie board, friends! It was a lot easier than I thought, as long as you have all the ingredients and have your idea planned out ahead of time. I got a long charcuterie board (this one is a 36” @crateandbarrel Cheeseboard, but you can also buy similar ones on Amazon)! @Campo Grande Meats also gifted us some yummy Iberico Pork (known as the wagyu of pork) delivered! They’re on a mission to deliver the best of Spain’s delicious food culture straight to your doorstep! Next you’ll want to gather all of your ingredients you’ll be using to construct your board. The trick is using the rule of 3’s (or 3-3-3-3) for an ideal aesthetic. This means that every charcuterie board should have: • 3 different types of meats • 3 different types of cheeses • 3 different types of crackers • 3 different starch options such as fruit, nuts, veggies I’m using 3 different cheeses, gourmet crackers, raspberry jam, grapes, and rosemary garnish that I bought at Amazon Fresh for less than $21! I was really pleased with their quality selection and low prices, I had never bought groceries or food at @Amazon Fresh And also learned this super easy design hack from my MIL on how to create pepperoni or salami roses: Use a small glass with a small opening (I used a shot glass or you can use a wine glass if you have lots of slices). At the top of the glass, place slices of meat on the edge and fold over in half. Layer the next piece overlapping the previous piece and continue all the way around the glass using several layers. Next, turn the glass upside down and firmly press onto your board or tray, and twist it slightly to release the glass from the meat. For the cheeses — I cut square pieces into triangular slices or thin rectangular slices and made different designs throughout my board. To add that touch of elegance to the look, I added a solid cheese wedge. It was a huge hit at the party! Hiiii! My hubby, George w/ @Arteh Creations, handmade this awesome giant sized Jenga game using 2x4 lumber that he cut into Jenga pieces, trimmed and sanded them down, and then used a template with heat engraving to add LA @Lakers logos on some of the pieces. Then finished with a coat of sealant to make the pieces smoother to slide. It was A LOT of work! But since it was his first time trying it, he learned a lot of great lessons from experimenting what will and won’t work when he makes more next time. We brought the Giant Jenga Game in a wheeled crate (it’s HEAVY) for Thanksgiving, and it was a big hit! Good times! We had a few adults keeping the area clear in case it toppled, though. Because the pieces are heavy and we didn’t want anyone to get hurt. And boy was it a loud drop! What do you think? Hi Frands! Here’s a quick tutorial on this Crate & Barrel 7 piece matted photo gallery DUPE I found at @HomeGoods! It was super easy! Tools and Supplies: Painters Tape Scissors 7 Nails (or Small Screws) Scotch Tape The Lily + Faye Set of 7 Matted Gallery Wall Frames box included a template that you can follow. We laid it out on the floor first to figure out how we wanted the collage to look. Once we were happy with it, we used painters tape to tape them together while the templates were on the floor. Then we put it on the wall to figure out where we wanted it to hang. *Tip: We took into account the extra space we’ll need to add a gallery picture light above the frames (arrives on Friday!). *Tip: You can order different sizes of matte printed photos from the @Walmart Photo Lab. These 7 photos were about $7 to print at Walmart, AND ready within 1-hour! 😮 Once it was all straight and exactly where we wanted it, we taped the whole template collage down with painters tape on the wall. The template was SO EASY! Even where to put the nail/screw had a “NAIL HERE” arrow lol. Hope you enjoyed this tutorial! This Labor Day 2024 marks George and I’s 18th dating anniversary! 🥂 It’s amazing how far we’ve come from 2006 individually and as a couple. How many dreams and goals have changed, pivoted and gotten WAY bigger than we could’ve ever imagined at 25 years old. How much we’ve accomplished in life, the family we’ve raised, the places we’ve lived and the many, MANY adventures, learning experiences, and challenges we’ve faced. No matter how good or bad things got in life, we did it together. People often call us a clingy couple that ALWAYS has to be together at all times if humanly possible. I like to call our love a separation anxiety kind of love. 😂 For the last 18 years George has treated me like a queen 👑. My definition of a successful and loving relationship with George has been many, many simple details and efforts that have led to what we have today. George makes me feel safe, he is trustworthy, he is faithful (not only to me, but to our family and our faith in God), he is fun, he is funny, he is extremely charming and charismatic, he is intelligent and wise, he is genuine and authentic, and we can be ourselves around each other (even though it may seem weird by outsiders looking in). I’m so glad we took a chance on each other despite the circumstances surrounding us. And I thank God everyday that I have you. My one and only true soulmate, we were meant to be since we met as teens (which is actually Jude’s age now - 16!). If I could go back and tell my younger self anything, I would tell my teenage self that I didn’t need implants to love myself, because I was uniquely made in God’s image. And that these gel silicone bags would make me so sick, depressed and bed ridden that it wasn’t worth getting in the first place, and that I’d end up missing out on years of living my life to the fullest. Although I try to see wrong decisions I’ve made as learning experiences, this was one of my biggest regrets in life. And there are only a few regrets out of my almost 43 years of existence, so it’s not like I have a ton or regrets lol. But hey, they’re out now and I’m 90% better health-wise, so I consider it a win! To all my haters who doubted me…our plants are still alive thanks to my MIL’s green thumb. 🪴 Haha! Can you spot the fakes? Hint: 90% of the plants in this video are real! 🌱 I’m slowly learning how to take care of them. Never cared about plants or flowers before (maybe because my name’s a flower and it’s all anyone has ever associated me with). But I find satisfaction in watching them grow, the similarities to the stages of human life, and relating plants in how they’re shared in the bible (the garden of Eden, the mustard seed, “bearing fruit”, the tree of life etc). My husband came home early on Valentine’s Day to surprise us with some of our favorite things! It was so, so cute! 🥰 He got me another Monstera Albo to add to my rare plant collection! The leaves are a deep green color with gorgeous white marbling!
