Each Barrett-Jackson auction promises an amazing assortment of collector vehicles, and Day 4 of the 2025 Scottsdale Auction delivered. One of the most exciting moments of the day was when the first car hit six figures: a 1989 Chevrolet Corvette "Speed Racer" re-creation (Lot #165.1) that went to its new home for $110,000. The star of the day was a custom 1921 Oldsmobile used as "Jethro's Hot Rod" in the "Beverly Hillbillies" TV series (Lot #171) that sold for $165,000. Aside from the TV and movie cars, other vehicles that caught bidders' attention included a 1953 Chevrolet 3100 custom pickup (Lot #180) for $93,500, a 1957 Chevrolet Corvette convertible (Lot #195) for $93,500 and a 1959 Chevrolet Corvette 283/270 convertible (Lot #186) for $88,000. Mark my words, West Loop is coming back this year. The West Loop had one of the biggest falls from grace during the pandemic, it went from being called the best place to live to the worst in the blink of an eye. Common sense has gotten me far in life, and it's telling me, it's time for a West Loop come back. I'm feeling 2025 is Chicago's West Loop's year. It’s a controversial subject, but I think people should be back in office. Not every job, not always 5 days a week, but it would have the most positive impact in bringing back Chicago’s downtown, and it would help a lot of cities rise from the ashes. From personal experience, I know everyone we’ve hired that worked from home, their productivity was horrible. I know I’ve taken more buyers out in the past few years from the hours of 11am-3pm then I ever have, and it’s a joke from them every time: “I’m working, but I’m not really working”. I know my friends that work from home are constantly distracted by laundry, the dog, that last episode on the netflix show they are binging. I’m not saying it’s all bad for every job, but I know productivity in a lot of positions is down, and I personally think people benefit form an office setting at least part time. (forever full time on the Laricy team). Most importantly, the impact going back to the office would have on the city is undeniable! Drive down State st. in Chicago... it’s depressing, and it has been. Vacancy after vacancy. If even half the city goes back to the office part time, restaurants would be able to open, mom and pop shops would be able to come back, the city would be alive again. We need it.
