“Ain’t Talkin’ ‘bout Love” was released in 1978 on the self-titled, debut album by Van Halen. Written by Eddie Van Halen, the song took him over a year to initially play for his bandmates, as he considered it a simple punk rock parody that he was too embarrassed to share. David Lee Roth’s lyrics were added, coming from the perspective of a rock star that wanted to make sure the women he met didn’t get too attached, while also touching on the disillusionment and disappointment that comes from pursuing a relationship that is one sided or not meant to be. The album would go on to peak at number 19, while also becoming known as one of the greatest debuts in rock history. Excerpt: You know you’re semi-good lookin’ And on the streets again Oh yeah, you think you’re really cookin’ baby You better find yourself a friend, my friend Ain’t talkin’ ‘bout love My love is rotten to the core Ain’t gonna talk about love Just like I told you before, before Before, before, before
