CONVOS WITH CARRIE: Dealing With Dementia My kids and grandkids tell me that I haven’t driven a car since I was first diagnosed with dementia in 2018. Dementia is tricky. I know lots of stuff (most stuff) from my past. I know a few things of the present tense. But apparently I think I still drive and function normal and don’t remember from day to day that I don’t even have a drivers license anymore. In moments like in this video, we show the negative impacts of my illness. In these moments, I adamantly remember that I still drive and have a car, but as you can see, when my kids challenge me, I am unable to prove what I say is actually reality. I’m just thankful to have my children to keep me on point. We laugh in moments like this but I know this illness is hard on my family more often than not. Y’all don’t see the footage of the tears of frustration that I see on my kids faces so often.
