One year ago, I ignored my intuition. I signed a lease to live in Denver for a second year. My new apartment was beautiful, hard-earned and full of so much opportunity. But deep down, I knew my decision wasn’t the right one. I stayed in hopes that I’d build long-lasting friendships, enter a loving relationship and create some stability for myself. I did everything I could to give it a fair chance. I got involved with the community, explored cities outside of Denver and really tried to romanticize my life there. But what most people didn’t know at the time, I was assaulted six months in, abandoned by my only “friends” and met with constant terrifying dating experiences. I grew lonely. I started to drink and take drugs, to either feel what I was suppressing or numb it all out. I eventually became suicidal. So, less than three months into my new lease, I made a choice. To pack up my life, again. To follow my gut. To live out my vision of being back East. And so I did, exactly that.
