Any of my friends who have been working in the field of mental health and addiction have seen these atrocities playing out for decades now, but we have essentially allowed and permitted these behaviors to occur long-term in part due to the stigma that addiction and mental health have had to unnecessarily and unfairly carry for a long time. Giving someone seven days of treatment for an opioid addiction is basically handing them a death sentence. So if you’re wondering why the overdose rates are as high as they are? Guess what - this is another thing that we can pin significant responsibility to unethical insurance provides. Not to mention the toll that it is taking on all of us in the field of mental health and medicine… What’s even crazier to me?
