3 Drinks To Avoid In ADHD In this video, I talk about 3 common drinks that can worsen ADHD symptoms. 1. Alcohol – alcohol has many detrimental effects, including a negative impact on neurotransmitters, interference with ADHD medications, impairment of executive functioning and impairment of the frontal lobe of the brain, disrupted sleep patterns, increased risk of substance abuse, worsening of emotional regulation, and social and behavioral issues. 2. Soda or other high sugar drinks – sugar is not your friend if you have ADHD. It can have many negative consequences and can exacerbate ADHD symptoms significantly. The rapid spike and crash in blood sugar can lead to focus and mood issues.  3. Energy drinks – the extremely high caffeine concentration found in many energy drinks can be detrimental for those with ADHD. While caffeine in moderate amounts can be beneficial for some with ADHD, the high doses found in many energy drinks can lead to overstimulation which can manifest as increased anxiety, restlessness, and difficulties sleeping - all of which can worsen ADHD symptoms  I typically recommend sticking to filtered water, organic tea, including matcha or green tea, or organic coffee in moderation.
