let’s make afghan roht aka afghan sweet bread, a childhood favorite of mine 🥹🤎 recipe — 1 tablespoon yeast 1/2 cup warm milk 2 eggs (room temp) 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup oil 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon cardamom powder 3.5 cups all-purpose flour for topping: 1 egg yolk 2 tablespoons milk sesame seeds nigella seeds 1. mix yeast and warm milk in a bowl and let sit for 10 minutes 2. in a large bowl, whisk eggs, sugar, oil, baking powder, and cardamom. 3. add the yeast mixture and stir well. 4. sift in the flour gradually and mix until a dough forms. 5. cover the bowl and let the dough rest for 1 hour until doubled in size 6. preheat oven to 350°F 7. transfer the dough to a baking sheet and flatten it into a circle using your fingers. (not too thin or thick) + make sure to lightly coat your hands with oil since the dough will be sticky 8. poke holes in the dough with a fork. (i also used a pizza docker, but a fork will work just fine!) 9. mix egg yolk and milk, then brush it over the dough. 10. sprinkle sesame and nigella seeds on top. 11. bake for 25 minutes until golden brown. don’t forget to serve with a hot cup of sheer chai + nosh e jaan 🫖
