My grandfather has been in a hospital bed since before Thanksgiving after going in for what he thought was a heart problem. He was diagnosed with AML 3 days after being admitted, and a few days after that, his wife of 53 years passed away. He was unable to attend her funeral and we're all still spinning from the events of the last few months. My grandfather is a Vietnam veteran and the VA has denied his claim of AML (Acute Myeloid leukemia) because the VA thinks there is not enough evidence linking the cancer to Agent Orange. There are countless studies and medical professionals that say otherwise and many vets who fought and won for their VA benefits. My goal is to ensure no other Vietnam era veteran needs to fight for years to get their claim approved for AML. From all of the reading I've done over the last week, there have been too many that have passed away from complications from their leukemia while waiting on the VAs decision on their appeals. This is unacceptable and something needs to change. Let's fight for our family and friends to get the care they deserve while more studies are done to prove AML is linked to their exposure of AO.
