This is NOT a DCS World simulation but the real thing. An Eielson AFB Alaska F-35 crashed today (28 Jan 25) and was destroyed impacting the runway infield as the pilot descended in his parachute after ejecting from the stricken fighter jet. The KC-135 Crew Chief records the falling F-35 that is in the landing configuration and tumbles past the pilot in the parachute. As normal procedure when there is an aircraft crash the airfield is closed with no movement allowed other than rescue vehicles and personnel. I’ve landed hard in bad weather several times in a KC-135 and video of the CRJ landing in Toronto has the signs of a high sink rate and no flare causing a hard landing the right gear may have failed and the right wing to separate from the aircraft. The Flight Attendants are absolute heroes getting everyone out of a fuselage on its back, which they probably never trained for. Some thing was really wrong with the Navy E/A-18G Growler jamming jet which crashed into San Diego Harbor for both crew members to analyze the situation on takeoff and decide they needed to eject to save their lives after only 60 seconds of flight. The Growler actually flew for a distance with both crew members and the canopy gone before nosing over at about a sixty degree angle and crashing into the bay. The steep angle the Growler entered the water and the dirty splash makes me think it hit in a shallow portion of the bay causing some of the bay mud to rise in the water plume. During my 24 year career flying military aircraft I’ve experienced numerous bird strikes which in one case destroyed the right engine of the T-38 jet trainer I was flying. Impacting a large bird can cause serious damage to the aircraft and crew.
