Let's go feed some sled dogs! Sled dogs are fed twice a day the morning water is a light feed so they get hydrated it's kind of like chicken soup. Their dinner is like stew or chili which provides the bulk of calories. Warm water is mixed in with their food so they drink and get hydrated. Sled dogs tend to not drink plain water in the winter months so we need to get it in their system by alternative means. We're on kennel version 3.5 at this property and it's going to change. Maybe not this year but sometime in the next decade. We run 9,000 dogs per year so your setup needs to be very efficient because time = $$$$. Go to 50 different sled dog kennels and you'll see 50 different setups. I've been to a lot of kennels in our region and you always learn something new from every musher out there. None of them are wrong. When you're involved in the sled dog world you're still a beginner at 10 years. Novice at 20. Amateur at 30 years. Experienced at 40 years, and a professional after 50 years. Four of the puppies are now out in the big dog kennel! Tool, Metallica, Furious, and Surly. We like to have them out before they start harness training next month. Getting them tether broken helps them manage the gangline so they can get untangled really quick on their own. A light load of 500lbs only requires 6 dogs but I took 7 dependables because I was too lazy to take out a gangline section. Front to back. Another short day at the kennel with rides for customers from WI. Days like this let me catch up on projects and run errands. My well is pumping muddy and silty water again it's been crap for a couple of days. The drillers think it's the frost moving the casing on the well due to a low snow year. They had suggested insulating around it this summer to see if that helps or not. A balmy 0F day with -25F wind-chill today at the kennel. The dogs did spectacular, much better than the warm weather we had yesterday. A sold out show with smiles and pets all around. Sissy the Malinois started in team today and then ran in lead coming home with Oly. Her very first time up there. Apparently I forgot to record it because Mochi was a very hot item in that team distracting the boys. She must be coming into heat.
