It was such a special moment to bring Mama and Kenan here—it truly felt like we were hanging out with family. We got to try so many dishes from the menu: three kinds of kibbeh, kibbeh nayeh, hummus, baba ghanoush, shish barak, and even mansaf (a traditionally Jordanian dish). For me, the standout was the yalanji. It was so lemony and flavorful, and the texture of the grape leaves was absolutely perfect. If you have room for dessert, you have to try the pistachio ice cream. It’s made in-house and hands down the best pistachio ice cream I’ve ever tasted. I’m so grateful for Aleppo’s Kitchen. If you’ve ever wanted to explore Syrian food and culture, this is the perfect place to start. I can’t wait to come back—and hopefully learn how to make their yalanji!🤤

The abrupt shift in power that came with the toppling of the Assad regime has made preserving evidence of war crimes in Syria difficult. In the chaos, family members searching for information on loved ones, journalists, and other actors have entered mass grave sites and prisons, putting evidence at risk of being destroyed or tampered with. We spoke to the International Committee of the Red Cross about the importance of preserving evidence in Syria. ICRC uses humanitarian evidence to “alleviate human suffering” by identifying people and providing answers to individuals seeking to reunite with or find information on missing family members. ICRC currently has 35,000 registered cases of missing people and is working with their families to gather information. Nearly 100,000 to 200,000 Syrians are missing, according to data from the United Nations and the Syrian Network for Human Rights. ICRC is calling on the new Syrian authorities to preserve this evidence. “It's important that the authorities in charge take the responsibility and that they protect these documents and that they protect these sites,” said Alyona Synenko, an ICRC spokesperson. #syria #icrc #damascus #aleppo #middleeast #news

DAMASCUS AIRPORT PARTIALLY REOPENS
For the first time since the ouster of Bashar al-Assad, #Syria’s new de facto government has announced the resumption of flights from #Damascus airport. The first passenger plane was an internal flight, bound for #Aleppo in northern Syria. There are no international flights scheduled, as the security conditions across the country remain unclear. The rehabilitation of the airport included changing flags and slogans and repairing some of the damage caused by the unrest that occurred on the same day that the Assad government was ousted.
