An Amaro-Forward Margarita Perfect for Winter 🍹❄️ As the weather gets colder, I find myself reaching for the amaros in my collection more and more, both at the studio and at home. Amaros are not only ideal as a digestif after dinner, but they also add a rich blend of earthy and herbal notes to cocktails. This brings me to the Monterita, a recipe I discovered online that is super easy to make at home with just four ingredients. 🍹 This cocktail features two key components: Montenegro Amaro and a good reposado tequila, such as Cazcanes No. 7. Montenegro Amaro contributes sweet, mildly bitter notes of orange zest, coriander, cherry, vanilla, and clove. Meanwhile, the Cazcanes reposado tequila brings flavors of cooked agave, black pepper, and caramel, which beautifully complement the cinnamon and vanilla tones found in the Montenegro. 🍊 I found this drink to be incredibly delicious! After spending over 10 years behind the bar, I can’t believe I had never made this recipe before. I’m eager to experiment further by substituting Montenegro with other amaros like Cynar, Amaro Nonino, Meletti, and more. 🥃 Here’s how to make the Monterita: The Monterita Recipe ▫️1 1/2 oz Cazcanes No. 7 Reposado ▫️1 1/2 oz Montenegro Amaro ▫️3/4 oz Lime Juice ▫️1/2 oz Agave Syrup (1:1) ▫️Garnish with a torched Star Anise Instructions: 1. Combine all ingredients, except the garnish, in a mixing tin. 2. Fill the tin with ice and shake for 5-10 seconds, or until the tin feels cold to the touch. 3. Strain the contents into a cup filled with ice. 4. Garnish with a torched Star Anise pod. Enjoy!
