Kim and I have been talking about this moment for months. I sat there so nervous, waiting to hear who was chosen. I didn’t realize how closely my kids were watching everything I do, but after reading what my son wrote, it’s clear they’re paying attention to more than I realize. 2024 wasn’t an easy year for my kids and me, as most of you know, because I’ve shared a lot of what we’ve been through. But today, I was awarded ACO of the Year, and that means so much to me. I want to thank the twenty people who took the time to write small or even crazy nominations, and a huge thank you to the twelve people who wrote thoughtful, meaningful ones. I’ve poured blood, sweat, and tears (literally all three 😂😭) into this job, and while I still struggle with shutting off, I’m working on becoming a better partner and mother. This job is far from cute puppies and kittens, as I’ve explained before. I’ve even gotten in trouble for sharing the less glamorous side of it, but it’s important for the community to understand what we go through every day. I really hope that one day, Animal Control will be recognized and appreciated for all that we do—not just for the negative aspects.
