Spectra Fever is a disease originating from the lower levels of the Weather Factory in Cloudsdale. The virus causes an overload of Spectra, the magical pigment essence found in all ponies - causing rainbow blood, bile, saliva, and tears. Symptoms are most similar to rabies: dizziness, fatigue, delirium, visual and auditory hallucinations, sensitivity to light, hydrophobia. And an overwhelming appetite. An intense feeling of terror is most commonly reported in Stage 1 hosts, as Spectra poisoning begins to eat away at the central nervous system. The amygdala rapid-fires signals, causing heightened aggression, a spike in adrenaline, and a higher pain threshold. Hosts begin to lash out, fight for slipping sanity, or apologize for their actions. Eventually, the virus' strain on the body is too great, and the host dies. Reanimation can occur anywhere from several minutes to several days. Reanimated hosts are much slower, but gather in massive, roaming herds, or flocks in the sky so large they can blot out Celestia's sun.
