No, it’s not just to “make them look pretty.” Although they do! A huge amount of food waste is prevented by applying a natural wax to fruits and vegetables after they’ve been scrubbed clean! 🧼 You can remove any wax by running your produce under warm water (don’t boil it, that blanches it), and drying off with a towel/paper towel! Here’s what a heavy majority of the waxes used are: 1️⃣ Carnauba Wax - Derived from the leaves of the carnauba palm tree. - Commonly used for its high gloss and durability. 2️⃣ Beeswax - Natural wax produced by honeybees. - Provides a subtle shine and protective coating. 3️⃣ Shellac - Derived from the resin secreted by the lac insect. - Often used to create a glossy finish and protective barrier. Fruit sales are my fav! I love making orders, and my customers are seriously the best.🫶 Fun fact- we recently were able to get this warehouse that my great grandfather built, back into the family! And the man, Jeff B, who sold it back to my dad, is the father of the gal made the pear cuff, and the apple necklace I’m wearing in this vid. (MyFathersDaughterJewelry) It’s SO nice to have this warehouse because when I started in high school, I had to get up early before school and pack boxes using my headlights 😅 (the shop I stored my fruit in didn’t have electricity). So having proper storage cooling systems, and good lighting is the BEST! I learned a TON about fruit by handling it, and it can be pretty relaxing… when you’re not on a time crunch haha. ⭐️Btw you can find these Taylor’s Gold pears in Met Market starting next week!
