January 19th, 2025 marks the 95th Anniversary of the Watsonville Riots. Watch this video Via @kevinnadal and @fanhs_national ・・・ So many people never learned the history of the Watsonville Riots, nor about any of the racial violence that Filipinos had experienced throughout history. And although it is always sad to commemorate this tragic part of our history, it is necessary for us to teach it, so that future generations will always remember it. May we especially honor the legacy of Fermin Tobera - a 22 year old Filipino migrant who came to this country in search of opportunity and no idea that it would cost him his life. May we also honor the thousands of Filipinos who chose to stay and fight against injustices - for their resilience and grit helped to pave many paths for all of us. Because the Watsonville Riots lasted for 5 days, I hope Filipina/x/o Americans spend the next 5 days (at least) reflecting on how much our ancestors had to endure, while brainstorming ways that we can make it better for the next generation.
