Autism and Having to Pass by People Ever get nervous just to walk past people? For many of us Autistics, this seemingly simple act can feel overwhelming. It's simply the feeling of being unsure about how to act and not inadvertently offend someone. Suffice to say, social interactions aren’t always easy. In this reel, I hyper-summarize the challenges of 'passing by' people in public. One of the things I didn't say, for the sake of time, is this: this has caused me a plethora of discrimination within the past decade alone—people giving me looks, chuckling, name-calling, staring me down, and nearly lunging at me in an attempt to see if I would cower. Not all the time, though, but enough to want to take a stand. Let’s normalize different ways of experiencing the world! Feel free to leave a comment to tell a story and/or share a strategy that works for you. I'm trying to have my social media platforms be a place of fruitful discussion. This will help to further spread awareness and spark meaningful discussions. Your voice matters as much as mine! If you want, please head over to my YouTube channel, TikTok, and/or Facebook page for daily reels/shorts about Autism/Disability Awareness, Acceptance, and Inclusion—as well as motivation, encouragement, and much more. If you feel led, please share with others. (I would type "Unstoppable Matthew Kenslow" in the search to make it easier.)
