My stress levels go up over the Holidays. Do yours? I was sitting here creating examples of why people have holiday stress and the list became extremely long. And then I thought, "Ha! everyone knows why! I don't need to write it down." I am sure it varies from person to person depending on what is going on in your world. But as we start to settle back in to our routines, head back to work, and the kids return to school..... let me give you 5 tips to help you regulate cortisol levels and recover from the holiday stress. 1. Prioritize Restful Sleep: Poor sleep disrupts cortisol rhythms, leading to higher levels of stress. Establish a consistent sleep schedule, going to bed and waking up at the same time daily. 2. Focus on Balanced Nutrition: Overindulging in sugary, processed foods during the holidays can spike cortisol. Limit caffeine and alcohol, as they can elevate cortisol. 3. Move your body: Exercise helps lower cortisol, but overdoing it can have the opposite effect. Choose low-impact activities like walking, bike riding, or swimming. 4. Have a quiet time: Chronic stress keeps cortisol levels elevated. Pray, read, stretch, deep breathing, or journaling for 10-15 minutes daily. 5.
