Let me be clear, I am not disputing the importance of turnout space for our horses and I absolutely think you should try your hardest to always put your horses in a facility that has adequate space but sometimes that’s a very difficult task to do. I just think asking people to sell their horses or not have horses all together isn’t solving the lack of turnout space/time problem. It is reckless to deny turnout space to your horse as a horse owner, but to turn around and ask people to get rid of their horses or not own horses all together because of this, I think this “solution” isn’t a solution at all and will actually lead to many more problems. I think we need to put pressure on facility owners on the importance of turnout space and finding other solutions if turnout space is deemed unsafe for a period of time, instead of just “quitting” horse ownership all together.
