Here’s three and a half minutes of a remastered film featuring the Hollywood Hills & Beachwood Cyn during the roaring 20s. Many of those Spanish, Castle style homes were brand new. Other architectural styles being built were known as “Storybook” homes: Snow White cottages, Witch houses, Hobbit homes, Normandy Village houses, etc.. Many in the Hollywood Hills still stand today and can be found all over Southern California. An architectural design idea of the times. You can tell they had big plans back then for the future, and yet, 100 years later parts of these areas look the same. You’ll also catch a rare glimpse of the Hollywood sign when it spelled out HOLLYWOODLAND and @yamashirola Restaurant: Originally the home of New York importers of Oriental goods, Eugene and Adolph Bernheimer built in 1912. Also noticed that ancient Japanese Pagoda that was built in Japan then moved to California in 1914. And don’t blink because you’ll see a quick shot of the Hollywood Roosevelt out in the distance which had just been built. CRAZY! And look at all the old orange groves! 🍊 🍊🍊🍊 My dad used to tell me about those orange groves when he came to Hollywood in 1950. There were still plenty of those groves when he arrived. And here’s a fun fact after seeing those antique cars on the hill: In the 20's many cars didn't have enough power to go up steep hills ... so they went up backwards because reverse gear is much lower ... and obviously slower... but it would get you to the top as a last resort. This footage truly gives an accurate view of daily life during that particular era. Yes, it’s been colorized, most likely enhanced with AI, and sound has been added, but it is absolutely historically accurate.
