Hot Take Tuesday. I am currently navigating the world of youth sports as a former D1 Athlete with my kids.
#sportsparents some of you need to chill out… Your kid does not need to be specialized in a sport at 6yrs old. I was and by the time I was 13yrs old I was riddled with injuries. I almost didn’t even make it to being a college prospect because I was battling injuries at a young age. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your kid’s results in elementary school and middle school don’t matter. This is the time you use to learn, develop, and build confidence in the sport they love. I want my kids to walk into the crucial years mentally strong and still having fun in the sport they have chosen. Also, let your kids play multiple sports when they are young. My youngest still hasn’t decided if she likes golf or gymnastics more. She plays both and we love that. My oldest quit gymnastics, horse back riding, and tennis. Just 8 months ago SHE chose to commit to golf because she loved it. I already know someone is going to tell me I am wrong… but there is a ton of research now that supports this. I also speak from experience
