I never want my children (or any child) to feel like one of their languages is a burden. Or an embarrassment. Or something they have to hide to fit in. Their languages tell a beautiful story of their life, and I hope they will celebrate that. My hope is that they grow up knowing that their voice, in any language, at any proficiency, matters. P.S., while French is not one of our family's cultures (our heritage is made up of Italian, German and Polish), you can't separate language from culture. I teach Chloé about French culture and would like to learn about traditions from other Francophone countries.
