Being blind doesn’t mean he can’t use art to express himself even in the hardest situations. I have been wanting to share this clip of Ashton at the hospital last week because he really did an amazing job of expressing how he felt being admitted to the hospital with Sepsis. The night before he went to the hospital I actually met with all of his teachers for parent teacher conferences and his art teacher had the most beautiful things to say about my son. He said Ashton really knew how to express himself through art. He also said that Ash works really hard in a class that is very visual even though he can’t see he still tries to learn all the techniques and does his best in every project. When we were at the hospital I asked the nurses to bring us some paper and color pencils and this is the first drawing he made. I know it’s not perfect and it’s not similar to other 13 year olds art but it perfectly captures how he was feeling and I’m planning on keeping it forever.
