Welcome home Ash 🥹 Last night Ashton was able to leave the hospital and come home and I was so grateful to be able to walk out of the children’s hospital with my son. Raising a medically complex child is the hardest thing, I spent the last three days trying to figure out why he had this fever. The doctors did all the tests and all the labs and they still couldn’t figure out what is causing it. I slept right next to him on the most uncomfortable couch chair but I was glad to be there every time the doctors did rounds. I will always advocate for him and his health at the hospital. We made the decision with his doctors that it was better for him to keep taking his stress dose medications and antibiotics at home. He was having the hardest time having to stay in his hospital room the entire time. There wasn’t much else the doctors could do for his fever. He is now recovering at home and I hope this fever will go away soon. It does go away at times but comes back too. Hopefully today he’ll stop having a fever and go back to being his happy and incredible self that I’ve been missing all these days. I can’t believe we made it through another December hospital stay, I met so many moms at the hospital who will probably be spending Christmas with their kids there and I admired their strength and their stories. Raising a medically complex child has changed my perspective on so many things and I’ll never take for granted the times Ashton is healthy. Thank you for being here for us while we were at the hospital, the messages, the meals and all the help from friends and family it meant the world. #blindkidscan #disabilityparenting #medicallycomplexkids #blindnessawareness #septoopticdysplasiaawareness #codesepsis #welcomehome Video description: Lots of clips of a boy playing on his hospital bed and a mom taking care of him, she made a bed on a couch in his hospital room, she brings him food on a tray, the boy then smiles being wheeled out of the hospital on a wheel chair.

Being blind doesn’t mean he can’t use art to express himself even in the hardest situations. I have been wanting to share this clip of Ashton at the hospital last week because he really did an amazing job of expressing how he felt being admitted to the hospital with Sepsis. The night before he went to the hospital I actually met with all of his teachers for parent teacher conferences and his art teacher had the most beautiful things to say about my son. He said Ashton really knew how to express himself through art. He also said that Ash works really hard in a class that is very visual even though he can’t see he still tries to learn all the techniques and does his best in every project. When we were at the hospital I asked the nurses to bring us some paper and color pencils and this is the first drawing he made. I know it’s not perfect and it’s not similar to other 13 year olds art but it perfectly captures how he was feeling and I’m planning on keeping it forever. Art has always been something Ashton loves and being blind does not limit how he expresses himself with drawings and pictures. #blindkidscan #blindnessawareness #disabilityparenting #septoopticdysplasia #medicallycomplexkids #blindartist Video description: A boy smiles as he describes his picture to his mom sitting on a hospital bed.

Thank you @delta for reminding him the world is his and he can still travel all over being blind. A few weeks ago Ashton got the sweetest package from Delta airlines and I wanted to share his reaction. Delta sent him so many things with Braille on them to encourage him to travel the world. Ashton was traveling across the country to shoot his first movie when a Delta captain made him feel so special and congratulated him in September. Delta reached out to me after I shared that video and they put together this package for him. Thank you Delta Airlines for taking care of blind passengers and their families every time we fly with you Ashton has loved it. One day he’ll fly on his own and know that the world is his to explore too. #blindkidscan #blindnessawareness #septoopticdysplasia #blindtok #deltaairlines
