Never Forget - Black History Month Honoring the Lives Lost in the Orangeburg Massacre On this day, we remember the tragedy of February 8, 1968—a night when the fight for civil rights turned deadly at South Carolina State University. As students protested for equality, highway patrolmen opened fire on 200 unarmed Black students, killing Henry Smith, Samuel Hammond, and Delano Middleton and wounding 28 others. The Orangeburg Massacre remains one of the most violent yet least recognized events of the civil rights movement. Today, in honor of Black History Month, we pay tribute to these young men and their sacrifice for justice. Their courage will never be forgotten. ✊🏾🕊️
