Building confidence Desensitizing our world Introducing *weird* surfaces, sights, sounds etc ALL important parts of creating a well rounded, neutral, confident dog We ask A LOT of our dogs … including wanting them to come along everywhere AND act civilized Part of creating a dog who is able to do that is understanding how to acclimate them into the world This lab puppy was decently confident to begin with but still naturally hesitant with the noise of the cart. Understandably Here, I tried to allow her to check things out on her own as much as I could, while also helping her out some too Depending on the scenario, that help could look like food, toys, body language or leash pressure Here I used a bit of food and coaxing and that’s all she needed Every dog will be different Work with your dog where they are at Yours may go through it with ease or be a bit more nervous The point is to work them through and become more comfortable when they may have been hesitant at first All, of course, leasing to an overall more confident dog #DogTraining #atx #dogtrainer #puppies #labradorpuppy #labmomsofinstagram #labmomsrule #boardandtrain #confidencebuilding #homedepot

The point of this video is to show that “resource guarding”, generally being shown with a negative connotation in regards to dog to human scenarios, does not mean that it is a bad behavior 100% of the time, specifically in dog to dog contexts. A couple of things to note. 1. Dog To Human resource guarding is far different than Dog to Dog resource guarding as far as the trainability. Dog to human resource guarding is the one you hear about the majority of the time as it poses an eminent threat to the owners. Dog to human resource guarding CAN be work through with training in many cases. Dog to dog resource guarding is far less trainable and is really something that should be understood and managed accordingly. 2. These are my two personal dogs, who I know and trusted in allowing this scenario to play out. That does not mean all dog to ego scenarios will look like this. It means, with stable dogs, it can look like this and may not need to be punished if neither dog will escalate the situation. 3. There’s a clear pecking order established between them as she’s 12 and he’s barely 1 years old. She already requires a level of respect from him across the board living together. 4. Part of the beauty displayed here is how Neff’s communication is not over or under done. It is illustrated to make her point but nothing further. As well as, Ruin’s ability to ultimately listen and respect the boundary. Understanding your dogs behavior and their propensity to under or over react in different situations towards other dogs will help you know when it is necessary to intervene. I have seen so many scenarios where owners yell at their dogs for appropriately correcting another dog socially or resource guarding something hen it is warranted like the clip shown. I encourage owners to spend more time watching. Watch how your dog interacts with their environment. The eyes, the tail, the density in their body. Learn about it, humanize it, just be curious about how they see and respond to the world. #dogtodogresourceguarding #resourceguarding #DogTraining #dogtrainer #Relationship #boardandtrain #trust #respect #boundaries #austintx #atx
