We all know
#Michigan as the state made of two giant
#peninsula's within the
#GreatLakes, but very few know of Michigan's
#LostPeninsula! A byproduct of the boundary drawn after the
#ToledoWar, when Michigan and
#Ohio nearly went to battle over who should own the city of
#Toledo, today the
#LP is a mere half-square mile peninsula, disconnected from it's state by a 6-10 minute drive through Toledo. Today, it is a gated community, with a marina, but its residents are still staunchly
#Michiganders, so much so that when they started a fire and winds carried it into Ohio, their fire department actively chose NOT to help, just to be petty and stick it to us
#Buckeyes. Wouldnβt expect anything less from those
#Wolverines, right! But, the Lost Peninsula is a rare example of a
#US #State having an
#exclave, which is a piece of land that is discontiguous with the main body of a political entity. Other states that have exclaves include
#Kentucky and
#Delaware, while
#Minnesota and
#Washington have exclaves via the Canadian border. The entire state of
#Alaska, by definition, is the world's largest exclave. Should I make a longer video about the Toledo war?
