Even though plastic labeled “BPA-free” does contain bisphenol A (BPA), they can still contain other potentially harmful chemicals. BPA is just one of many chemicals that can leach out of plastics. When plastic bags are made, they often contain a variety of other substances, such as: Phthalates: These are used to make plastic more flexible and can leach into food or the environment. Some phthalates have been linked to hormone disruption and other health issues. Polystyrene and Styrene: Often used in plastic production, these chemicals can be harmful when exposed to heat or broken down, potentially causing respiratory or neurological issues. Even BPA-free plastics can release these chemicals into the environment or human body through contact, ingestion, or exposure to heat and sunlight. While the BPA-free label may reduce one particular health concern, it’s not a guarantee that the plastic is entirely safe. Share this video with a friend!
