For Elizabeth Catlett, printmaking was her public art. She learned through her time at the Taller de Gráfica Popular, that the linocut process is inexpensive and durable, allowing many prints to be made from a single block. In this spirit, we’re hosting two opportunities for printmaking this month at the Museum: 🗓️ January 9: Teacher Workshop: Revolutions on Paper 🗓️ January 11: Studio Workshop: Printmaking and Elizabeth Catlett See Catlett’s prints in #ElizabethCatlettBkM through January 19 and save your spot for these workshops at the link in our bio. 📷 Celebration: A Black Revolutionary Artist and All That It Implies, 09/14/2024. Glamorously golden! 🌟 The Blonds (@TheBlondsNY) often design garments featuring intricate chain arrangements. Their avant-garde designs push the boundaries of luxury and theatricality, offering a contemporary twist on draped chains. Their powerful fashion statements have caught the eye of many celebrities including Jennifer Lopez (@JLO), who wore these empowering chain corsets in the “Ni Tú Ni Yo” music video in 2017. Can contrast be complementary? 🔲 🔳 This gallery is called Counterparts. It brings together disparate artworks typically separated by time, culture, and medium in an achromatic display that heightens similarities and recontextualizes differences. This curatorial approach for this section was inspired by two past exhibitions at the Museum, which challenged the ways art by Black artists was displayed and interpreted as separate from their white counterparts: 1️⃣ First Group Showing: Works in Black & White curated by the Black artists collective, Spiral 2️⃣ The Black and White Show curated by Lorraine O’Grady Plan your visit to see how this gallery builds on and departs from the racial considerations of the earlier exhibitions in Toward Joy: New Frameworks for American Art. #BrooklynMuseum #BkMAmericanArt #Brooklyn #MuseumTok #Museum
