Designing a good logo (that makes you more 🤑) is not as easy as you think. Here’s what I did wrong as a novice graphic designer stepping out into the world 9 years ago… 1. I picked what I liked (not a good strategy) One of the biggest design mistakes you can make for your business is to make it about YOU. Even though you’re the one doing all the work in your business, you’re not the hero. If your audience doesn’t feel like the star of the show, they will scroll on by faster than a toddler running from bedtime. The best design decisions are actually built by gathering strategic information and using that to determine everything. 2. I only created 2 variations, the primary logo and the brand mark. I also didn’t create black & white versions of each variation. This was very limiting when I went to use it on anything. A good logo will have cohesive versions that will work in various backgrounds and aspect ratios. 3. I designed it as if “more is more,” and well, that just turns out to be chaotic. Have you ever walked into a store, saw cluttered shelves, merchandise bursting from the racks, a loud crackly voice booming over the intercom and thought “…not today” so you walked right back out the door? Yeah…that’s what happens when you overload a design. It’s too much for the viewer to have to process and they do not need to add that kind of headache to their already overwhelmed nervous system. One of the principles of good design is simplicity. A logo should communicate the brand essence with minimal complexity. We all have to start somewhere. The good thing is, we learn and we grow every year we’re in business. \\ “For God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of God’s glory in the face of Jesus Christ.” 2 CORINTHIANS 4:6 #buildingabusiness #smallbusinessowner #businesscoach #businessgrowth
