Living like a Victorian up in this B!!! After being away on my book tour for over a month, I’m finally back home. Before we left, we had no heat since our furnace hadn’t been serviced since 1985 and it was a beautiful death trap. Before left, we turned off the water and headed out, but upon our return, the house felt like an icebox. Funny enough, one of the men that used to live in this house and died in this house was a worker at the ice plant factory back in the 1930s. Spooky much? Anyway, It turns out we didn’t turn the water off completely, leading to some sinks still dripping and creating an icicle from the kitchen sink. something I’ve never seen before! Even the water in the coffee maker was frozen solid. When we tried to turn the water back on, we discovered that the pipes had burst. So water was dripping everywhere. With plumbing issues common in cold climates, finding a plumber in a small town was a challenge. We had to wait a week for an appointment. During that chilly time, the furnace team arrived and installed a beautiful new unit, along with replacing an old water heater that was leaking carbon monoxide—yikes! So, out with the old and in with the new. We still had to wait a few days for a plumber to connect everything, but we managed to use the main line to flush toilets and wash dishes. It was definitely like living in the olden days when they had to get water from the well. I even embraced a Victorian-style bath using a pitcher and basin I found last summer. Who knew it would come in handy? I’m thrilled to say everything is now in working order! Bit by bit, I’m getting closer to focusing on what I really want to do with this house which is the design and decor elements. With every repair this house just keeps getting cozier and cozier. Now it’s time to tackle the next project….
