Birthday GirL in the House! 27 years seems like yesterday and forever ago at the same time. Grace was born in the middle of the night and we had no idea she would have Down syndrome. There weren’t any congratulations offered just solemn looks and “I’m so sorry” from the nurse. Grace was transferred a few hours later to Egleston at Emory Atlanta due to a prominent heart murmur. The next day she was diagnosed with a heart defect (Complete AV Septal Defect) Without surgery she would not live past 2-3 years old. The grief I was feeling for her Down syndrome diagnosis went out the window at that moment and turned to mom mode and doing anything in my power to help her thrive and survive. When someone tells you your child is sick everything else goes out the window. Skip to 27…I’d like to find that nurse who said “I’m sorry” and all I would tell her is to binge watch our social media videos and see if she would tell me that again. Grace has brought more joy and love to our lives than I could have ever imagined. I wouldn’t change her for the world. She’s a gem. One of a kind. Funny. Smart. Loving. Kind. Stubborn 🤣.
