Cardamom is my first favorite smell, and my third favorite flavor. This bread is where all that started.  #Bread #baking #eat #tasty #yum #breakfast #desert #sweets #delicious #bake #homemade #cardamom  Cardamom Bread  (Makes 3 loaves)  For the bread: 2 cups whole milk 2/3 cup granulated sugar 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter (Melted)  4.5 tsp (2 packets) active dry yeast 5.5-6 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons ground cardamom 2 eggs  For the icing: 1 cup powdered sugar 1 to 2 tablespoons heavy cream Splash Vanilla Instructions Heat milk in microwave in 30 second intervals until warm to touch, but doesn’t burn your finger (115 degrees if you have a thermometer)  Add yeast and 1 tablespoon of your sugar. Mix.  Allow to sit until frothy (3-5 minutes)  Add in 5 cups of your flour and all other dry ingredients.  Give a quick stir to mix everything before adding all other ingredients.  Mix until everything is incorporated, slowly adding flour just until the dough pulls away from sides of the bowl and forms a soft, smooth, elastic and slightly sticky ball. Lightly grease a bowl. Shape dough into a ball, then place in your greased bowl turning to coat.  Cover bowl with plastic wrap and let dough rise until doubled (~1 hour). Punch down dough. Divide dough into 3 equal portions. (Makes 3 loaves) Divide each of those portions into equal sections. (I do 4 sections because I like 4 strand braids, but you can do whatever you want).  Roll each section into 12-inch-long strand.  Braid and then cover with a loose plastic wrapl and let rise 30-60 minutes (until doubled). Heat oven to 375 degrees F. Bake 20 to 25 minutes until loaves are 200 degrees and golden brown on top.  Transfer to cooling rack to cool completely (unless you’re going to eat it all immediately, then you can eat it still warm. Otherwise it will lose too much moisture cuting early and won’t be as good tomorrow.)  Icing: In a small bowl, mix powdered sugar and enough cream to form a thick glaze. Drizzle glaze evenly over cooled loaves.
