🎥✨️ Saying goodbye to a lifelong companion At 79, Naoko Nishimoto is parting with her cherished 1999 Mazda RX-7 after 25 years together. Her journey with the car began after watching her son enjoy the anime Initial D, inspiring her to buy the silver, manual transmission RX-7 at age 55. 🚗💨 Leaving behind family sedans, Nishimoto embraced the thrill of driving a high-performance sports car. Over the years, she meticulously cared for her RX-7 (which she named “Seven”), driving it daily for errands and scenic trips, accumulating just 75,000 km (46,603 miles). As her 80th birthday approached, she decided to voluntarily give up her driver’s license—a growing trend among elderly drivers in Japan. Determined to find the perfect home for her beloved car, she received over 400 offers but chose to return it to Mazda. Mazda plans to restore the RX-7 and use it for promotional events, ensuring its legacy continues. “The RX-7 has been my partner in life,” Nishimoto said at the emotional handover.
