Turning an Old Ladder into a Cozy Cat Climbing Paradise If you're looking for a creative way to transform an ordinary household item into a fun, functional space for your cats, look no further than that old ladder collecting dust in your garage. In this project, I took a broken ladder and turned it into a stylish cat climbing rack. Instead of letting it rust away, I decided to wrap it with colorful sisal rope, install cozy hammocks, and add little finishing touches to create the perfect indoor playground for my feline friends. The result? A cat climbing paradise that's not only sturdy and comfortable but also surprisingly good-looking. One of the first steps is to wrap the ladder's rungs and side rails in sisal rope. Although time-consuming, this provides an excellent surface for cats to scratch and climb on. If you decide to replicate this project, opt for thicker rope to speed up the process and give your cats a more substantial gripping surface. After securing the rope, I installed wooden boards with round bases and topped them with baskets and cushions for easy cat naps. The design also includes burlap hammocks. By attaching wooden slats on both ends of a piece of burlap and securing it to the ladder, you can create a snug hammock that cats love to curl up in. Even small touches can make a big difference. Small fuzzy balls or rope bows attached to either side of the ladder offer extra charm and entertainment. Cats love to bat at hanging objects, so these small accessories add an element of playfulness. Best of all, this upcycled cat climbing rack not only provides a warm, enclosed space for cats to rest and roam but also helps reduce the spread of sickness by giving them more room to spread out.
