🕊️Today marks my dad’s(Rudy)Heavenversary 12/29/20. The post & pic that I’m sharing explains how & where my father passed. As our social media grows I’ve come to learn that many of our new followers had no idea that my father and uncle had passed. That is the reason why we like to add “LEGACY “ to the TIERRA name as they were the founders and the force behind TIERRA. Again sorry for the confusion and we hope to have it resolved soon. Have a blessed Sunday everyone- the last one of 2024.-David Salas🙏🏽 Repost• While in Vegas for our event ,Daphne & I planned on visiting the “4 Queens” where my Father passed away on 12/29/ 2020 .Little did we know the hotel we were staying at (Golden Nugget), was directly across the street from The Four Queens. As we stood there, I felt compelled to capture the moment with a photograph, but it was more than just a picture. It was a moment of reflection on my last conversation with my Dad, a conversation that now carries immense weight in my heart. Two days before my Dad passed, I remember pleading with him not to go to Las Vegas. At that time, he had already suspected he was sick with Covid-19 and had taken a test the day before but had not yet received the results. He was already showing symptoms, and my concern for his well-being was overwhelming. It was my Uncle Steve who had given me the heads up about this trip, reaching out to me in the hope that I could persuade my Dad to reconsider. My Dad's 2nd wife, Joanna, had wanted to celebrate their anniversary in Las Vegas, and the family and I were deeply troubled by the idea of continuing with the trip. Tragically, our concerns were justified, and it became a heart-wrenching decision as my father passed away just two days later in a room at the Four Queens Hotel . If only there had been someone in his life at that moment who prioritized his health over a celebration in Vegas, perhaps the outcome would have been different. There have been three different versions coming from my Dad's 2nd wife on how he actually passed so I'm not sure if we will ever know the truth but I firmly believe that if he had been in Los Angeles, he would still be with us today. This experience has left an indelible mark on my heart, reminding me of the importance of valuing the health and well-being of our loved ones above all else. As a family, we’ve experienced it all ..the struggles my dad and uncle faced when building TIERRA and the incredible highs of their national fame. No one can tell their story better than us, the family who lived it, and the talented musicians who were there making the hits—now carrying the torch as TIERRA Legacy. We hope to call our documentary/Bio Pic "Torn Together". This was the working title my dad had when he was first approached about a potential documentary. Both he and Steve Salas loved it, as it perfectly captured the story of their tumultuous relationship as brothers who never lost their love and bond for one another . My sister and I are dedicated to nurturing and growing this legacy with the same passion, fervor, and faith that my father, Rudy, and uncle, Stevie, poured into founding TIERRA. Nearly every member of TIERRA Legacy played alongside my dad or uncle before their untimely passing or has been a part of TIERRA in the past. We take immense pride in honoring the Salas brothers not only through our performances but also through initiatives that celebrate their contributions. Together with our family—David Salas Rita Salas Daphee Salas, Robert Salas, Richard Salas, and Mary Alcantar—we’ve established the Salas Brothers Scholarship for Music at East Los Angeles College, commemorated them with Tierra’s Corner Memorial Plaque in Monterey Park and Salas Brothers Square in Lincoln Heights, and received numerous awards on their behalf from senators, congresspeople, cities, and incredible organizations like the Angel Awards. We would like to give a big thank you to Director Ernesto Quintero and Cinematographer Shawn Anthony Rubio for helping us create this amazing project with filming and interviews. He is the Uncle of the late, famed legendary East L.A. Chicano music artists & singers Rudy & Steve Salas of TIERRA, who signed them to their first record label, and produced their first album. A walking, talking Chicano Music Museum, we talked for a couple hours about Chicano life in East L.A., the 1960's birth of the Chicano Music "East Side Sound", the Chicano Movimiento and it's effect on Los Angeles life, the numerous music groups that played at the early Battles of the Bands at East L A.
