ARREST MADE: CROWS LANDING SHOOTING…FATALITY CRASH: This afternoon the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Central Division ISU StanCatt made an arrest in relation to a shooting that occurred on January 21, 2025, in the town of Crows Landing following a fatality traffic crash. On January 21, 2025, at approximately 2025 hours, the CHP received a call of a traffic crash on SR-33, north of Crows Landing Road. Emergency personnel arrived on scene and located a juvenile with major injuries. The juvenile, a 2-year-old from Newman, was transported by ground ambulance to Doctors Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries. Our investigation indicates the juvenile and his father, Mr. Elvis Zepeda, were standing on the west shoulder of SR-33, near a food truck. The juvenile ran from the west shoulder, entering SR-33 as Zepeda chased after him. The juvenile ran into the path of the BMW traveling northbound. The front of the BMW struck the juvenile. The driver of the BMW immediately pulled over. Immediately following the crash, Zepeda retrieved a handgun from his person and fired several rounds toward the BMW, some of which struck the rear of the vehicle. The driver of the BMW left the collision scene and was later contacted by CHP personnel. Evidence gathered by the Modesto CHP and StanCatt linked Zepeda as the shooter. Zepeda was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center by the CHP for attempted murder, possession of an illegal firearm, and possession of a control substance. The CHP would like to thank the Patterson Police Department and the Stanislaus County Sheriffs Department for their assistance. Together, we strive for a safer community.
