Make sure your dog understands these commands before starting to incorporate them together. I have a reel for “hold it” that is on my reel page! Step 1: Teach “hold it” Step 2: Practice “hold it” with an object on the floor and farther away Step 3: Place an basket under your dog and teach “drop it” Step 4: Practice “drop it” with the basket farther away Step 5: Combine Step 2 and Step 4, and use the command “clean up” Let me know in the comments if you’ve taught your dog this or if you’re planning on it! Teach your dog “nose”. Use a post-it or a piece of tape and mark and read when your dog taps their nose against it. 2. Place the tape on a closed door. Have them “nose” the tape. 3. Open the door and continue Step 2. Mark and reward once your dog taps it (even if the door doesn’t fully close). 4. Once your dog understands “nose” to the door consistently, keep having them “nose” and bump the door until it fully closed before you mark and reward. 5. Take away the tape or post it on the door and change your command to “close the door”.
