I think millennials get a bad rap. we are the generation known for being lazy, stripping old homes of their charm, not ever wanting to grow up, etc., etc.. but really I think, as a whole, this couldn’t be less true. . We live in a neighborhood full of millennials working really hard to restore some really special old homes, and it’s a pretty incredible community (you never have to buy a new tool, which is also a plus!). But, back to this entryway project… . This is one of the first projects we started when we moved in, and arguably one of the most important ones because it’s the first thing people see when they walk in the door. It’s the first thing WE see when we walk in the door, and I think setting the mood for both ourselves and for guest is really important. . But getting a functioning kitchen and dealing with some more pressing issues, put this project on the back burner for a long time. It was something we would work on when we found ourselves with some extra time on her hands, or with a little bit of extra money in the budget. And three years in she is almost complete. The gallery wall still needs lots of filling in, and if I’m to be honest with you, the very top of that railing is still not completely stripped. 😂😅 but I am really proud of the progress we have made. . It was really important to restore the heritage and period charm to the home. We used period-appropriate colors and patterns that would complement the original stained glass window and the warmth of the wood. The mosaic we added, picked up on the clover theme that is seen throughout our house. On all our hardware , and on our rounded moldings, there are carved and engraved clovers, and we wanted to pay homage to that in this mosaic. . And while stripping that railing was one of the most brutal endeavors I have ever undertaken in my entire life, it is incredibly rewarding seeing that gorgeous original wood shine. I also stripped the backside of the front door and the second door of the vestibule. . If homes could smile, I think ours would be grinning to have all that paint stripped off of her. .
